Transmuting Pain to Purpose Through Motherhood and Mental Health

May is both Mother’s Day and Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month — a meaningful convergence for Meghan, co-founder of White Leaf Provisions, mother of two, and entrepreneur. Throughout her journey founding and leading White Leaf, a family-run business dedicated to creating the purest, most environmentally kind family foods possible, Meghan has lived through both the most joyful and the most challenging moments of motherhood. Her experience navigating postpartum depression (PPD) after the birth of her first son, Keegan, ultimately led to the creation of a company rooted in love, transparency, and healing.

I now feel braver and more empowered than ever before,” Meghan shares. “But back in 2013, I was a new mom battling PPD in silence.

Following a challenging pregnancy, a cross-country move, and the emotional isolation that came with it, Meghan began to feel her mental health decline. Bonding with her newborn didn’t come easily, nor did discussing it—especially at a time when postpartum depression was still rarely talked about. Instead, there were long days filled with numbness, exhaustion, and tears. “I was in a dark place. I had zero feeling, zero attachment,” she recalls. Eventually, after hitting a frightening emotional low, Meghan found the courage to seek help. Therapy became her lifeline and the first step toward reclaiming her mental health.

That small spark of healing also lit the flame that would become White Leaf Provisions. Fueled by her desire to give Keegan the best nutrition possible—and frustrated by the lack of pure, regeneratively farmed options in the U.S.—Meghan set out to create something better, not only for her son, but for other families too. “My guilt over not serving the absolute best food turned into an obsession to source transparent, regenerative products,” she says. “That’s how White Leaf took root.”

When her second son, Cameron, was born eight years later following a battle with second-term infertility, Meghan was better equipped—emotionally and logistically—to navigate the newborn stage. From therapy and a postpartum doula to a stronger support system and clearer self-care boundaries, she experienced a drastically different transition into motherhood. “Time flies when you are properly supported,” she says. “I was not alone this time around, and that made all the difference.”

Today, Meghan continues to advocate for maternal mental health as a powerful reminder that postpartum depression is both common and treatable—and that vulnerability can lead to transformation.

I share my story so other mothers know they are not alone,” she says. “PPD is the most underdiagnosed mental health disorder, but it’s also one of the most treatable—with the right awareness and support.”

As White Leaf continues to grow, so does Meghan’s mission. The brand is continuously dreaming up and launching new regeneratively farmed foods to help transform our food system in the U.S. and provide a convenient, trusted option of the purest family foods possible. The brand just relaunched their regeneratively farmed applesauces that are Clean Label certified, made with nutrient dense ingredients like mangoes, coconut and blueberries grown in healthy soil, and now in fun, portable pouch form!
